Meet Betty
For over 22 years, Betty Contreras Vargas has been a beacon of hope and healing at the St. Vincent de Paul Charity Dental Clinic in Phoenix. Now, after a lifetime of serving others, Betty has been accepted into the Midwestern University School of Dental Medicine in Chicago.
Born in Mexico, Betty crossed the border at age 11 with no English and a 5th-grade education. Homeless and separated from her family, she never gave up. Her determination, faith, and love for helping others have brought her to this incredible milestone.
Her dream? To become a licensed dentist and return to St. Vincent de Paul to continue her life of service — this time, as Dr. Betty.
Dental School Is Expensive
- Betty’s cost of attendance is estimated at $150,000 per year for four years, including tuition, books, supplies, and living expenses. That’s a total of $600,000.
